On a beautiful spring afternoon, the Chronic Care Collaborative and health advocates from across Colorado gathered together on the lawn at Colorado Children’s Hospital to celebrate the end of this year’s legislative session. Under a sunny sky, Gov. Jared Polis signed several revolutionary health bills into law that will save people money on health care and prioritize people over profits. Among them was HB22-1370, the CCC’s priority bill that enacts critical protections to make health care affordable and dependable for those living with chronic conditions. We are so thankful to the bill’s prime sponsors, Representative Iman Jodeh (HD-41), Representative Emily Sirota (HD-9), Senator Faith Winter (SD-24), and Senator Janet Buckner (SD-28) for ensuring that this critical piece of legislation made it across the finish line. However, this day of celebration would not have been possible without the efforts of our incredible volunteer advocates. Coloradans just like you shared their lived experience dealing with unethical insurance practices and the impact that policies such as step therapy and midyear formulary switching had on their lives. Through powerful testimony, meetings with legislators, letters to state representatives, op-eds, and more, our chronic disease community made their voice heard and created lasting change in our state. From all of us at the CCC, thank you for all of your hard work and inspiring activism. Never forget that your voice matters.
Join us in signing our virtual “thank you” card for all the legislators that voted in support!
